Re: tow rigs and trailers
My tow rig is going in for some much needed service on Saturday,,,,hopefully. Getting the balljoints changed and getting an alignment done. Also have all new shocks, a puck lift in the front, and an air bag kit under the rear. Just finished putting a new carrier bearing on it, but I am still getting some vibrations in the driveline after first thinking I didn't. Gonna put some new tires on it , and see if I still have those vibes. If so, then I am going to put new ujoints in it.
As far as the trailer, I need to repack the bearings before we head out to Moab. Don't want to be on the way out there and then have a hub go South.

Re: tow rigs and trailers
Well I am tow rig poor right now!
I have a 2006 3500 4x4 srw Megacab. Damn that's a mouth full. Its the best damn truck I have every had. Its a sloshdrive but I dont like a stick in my DD. I have 35 BFGs and when I went to Dallas last weekend I got 24.3 mpg with no load. The most I have towed was a goose-neck with my rig and Hoops rig and tons of gear and spare parts going to North Carolina and Alabama last year. I estimate with everything it was about 14,000 lbs and I averaged 12.6 mpg there and back which I am happy with. It sure beats the 8.5 I was getting just towing my rig with the ole Silverado SS trucks I used to have...
I have also bought a 2000 Ford F-650 with the Cummins, 6 speed and 26 foot box-bed and hydro lift gate. This is one clean, sweet truck but I really dont need it. Its for sale or I would trade for a good goose-neck if anyone would like it. I was going to convert it into a toy-hauler but its just one more project I dont need...
Most dont get the mileage I get in my megacab but i think it has to do with a couple things. 1 is I change the fuel filter every 5k miles along with the oil and filter, and rotate. I use Mobil1 because its free I have stock piled the fuel filters from when I was working at Huffines so they are free! and the oil filters were free and I have a couple guys still there that keep collecting them for me (TULIP LOVES WHEN I TELL HIM ABOUT MY FREEBIES!!!)
2 I added the tailgate lip from the half ton trucks. It protects my tailgate and Chrysler claims it increases the fuel mileage by .8 from the testing in the air tunnels.
3 I also use CRC in my fuel every tank...
4 I baby the truck when on trips because its like my main mission to see how good of fuel mileage I can get when on long trips. between that and the CB its what I do when towing or traveling...
I cant wait to get my air horns, airbags and compressor hooked up. Im just waiting to get the bags and I will have pieced the entire kit together...

Re: tow rigs and trailers
I think trailer prices have come down a bit from where they were a couple of months ago. Here a while back Troy priced a gooseneck just like mine and it was double for what I paid for mine 3 years ago. Would hate like hell to try and buy a new one right now.

Re: tow rigs and trailers
You never know Josh, they may have come back down due to the economy. Doesn't hurt to call and get a quote. PJ Trailers here in Van Alstyne built mine.

Re: tow rigs and trailers
My tow rig needs the Josh touch. Just passed 36000 miles and I'm still hating the brakes shivering sometimes and the A/C moaning. Other than that it's doing great.
